Before filing a grievance, ask:
- What specific section of the Contract was violated?
- What language was breached?
- What is the measurable harm?
- Was this a contractual violation — or a policy issue?
Not every frustration is a contract violation.
A valid contract grievance generally requires:
- Clear contract language
- A documented deviation
- A tangible impact
The grievance process under Section 3 requires timely filing and specific identification of the alleged violation:
- 14 days to appeal a discipline.
- 60 days to appeal a contract violation.
Common Misconceptions
❌ “It feels unfair.”
❌ “Scheduling annoyed me.”
❌ “Someone else got better treatment.”
Those may warrant review — but they are not automatically contract violations.
What Happens After You Submit a Concern?
- We review the contract language
- We compare facts against language
- We determine whether it meets grievance criteria
- If appropriate, we file within required timelines
- If not appropriate, we explain why
Filing weak grievances harms credibility and reduces effectiveness in strong cases.
