What is ASAP?

Flight Attendants to report their own inadvertent violations of Company policy or FAA regulations through a non-disciplinary, non-punitive system.
Voluntary and confidential self-disclosure program for Flight Attendants that will allow the AFA, the Company, and the FAA to determine specific commonalities surrounding these violations.
Flight Attendant reports an inadvertent safety violation that they, themself, did or failed to perform through the ASAP reporting system.
The report is de-identified (name and employee number removed) and forwarded to the Event Review Committee (ERC).
The ERC consists of an AFA representative, an Inflight representative, and a representative from the FAA.
The team reviews the report and collectively decides to either accept or reject the report based on set criteria agreed upon by all three parties.
Exclusion from the program includes criminal activity, the use of a controlled substance or alcohol, or intentional falsification.
The event must also be unintentional, and not involve behavior that is considered reckless. Once the report is accepted into the program, the Flight Attendant involved is protected against any Company discipline and any FAA civil penalties.
Following the outcome of the ERC review, the Flight Attendant may have to participate in some follow-up activities recommended by the ERC in order to keep the reported event in the ASAP program. Follow-up activities may include counseling, procedural reviews and/or training.

Fatigue

Fatigue Report Guidelines

Claiming fatigue after a trip has started - A Flight Attendant reporting fatigue during a trip will personally contact crew scheduling by phone to advise that they are “fatigued”. The Flight Attendant will clearly state the reason for removal from, or denial of, the assignment is “fatigue”. You can NOT email crew scheduling of a fatigue you MUST contact them by phone.

A crew member is not permitted to advise crew scheduling of another crew member’s fatigue.
Fatigue calls cannot be forecasted into the future but only exists as an impaired physical condition at the current point in time.

After notifying crew scheduling of fatigue, the Flight Attendant will be removed from duty without punitive action, and reminded to complete an online fatigue report.

The Flight Attendant is required to submit the Fatigue report within 24hrs  of a fatigue call. Report can be found on the safety reporting forms page, same location as ASAP and FIR.

If the Flight Attendant is at a location other than their home base, arrangements will be made for him/her to rest in a hotel. The resumption of duty will be determined by Crew Scheduling.

Fatigue Report Review

Fatigue reports will be reviewed by the Fatigue Review Board, consisting of AFA Union Representative and a Company Representative,  to identify causal factors and common trends. Follow-up action, if any, will be determined by the Review Board.

If the fatigue call is determined to be Company Controllable, no discipline will be rendered in conjunction with the fatigue call.
If the fatigue call is determined not to be Company Controllable the Fatigue Review Board will refer the unaccepted fatigue call back to Base Management for disciplinary action.

Corrective Action Guidelines

If the fatigue report is determined not to be Company Controllable  by the Fatigue Review Board, the event is referred back to Base Management for evaluation, and the Flight Attendant will receive the appropriate Corrective Action for the Attendance and Reliability Policy. The flight attendant will also have his/her guarantee adjusted downward by the amount of flight hours missed.

USING GLOVES

It has always been approved to use gloves for picking up trays and trash. Gloves may be used for addressing medical emergencies. However, if you are in a situation on the airplane where you feel the use of gloves is necessary to protect your safety, use them. Once complete, use the method of glove removal recommended by the CDC for removing personal protective equipment.
