ASAP & Fatigue

What is ASAP?

ASAP is short for “Aviation Safety Action Program”.  It is a safety reporting system that tracks/trends safety concerns or violations through a non-disciplinary, non-punititive approach.  Data collected from the program is used to make changes to procedures and FAM to ensure our safety.  To make a report you can use the company website under “Safety” or use the icon “FIR/ASAP” on your Skypro.

It is a voluntary, confidential self-disclosure program for Flight Attendants that allow AFA, the Company, and the FAA to determine specific commonalities surrounding these violations or safety concerns.

Flight Attendant reports an inadvertent safety violation/reg violation or safety concern through the ASAP reporting system.

The report is de-identified (name and employee number removed) and forwarded to the Event Review Committee (ERC).

The ERC consists of an AFA representative, an Inflight company representative, and a representative from the FAA.  The team reviews the report and collectively decides to either accept or reject the report based on required criteria agreed upon by all three parties.

Criteria for a report to be excluded or rejected from the program includes criminal activity, the use of a controlled substance, alcohol, falsification and reckless disregard for safety.

Once the report is accepted into the program, the Flight Attendant involved is protected against any Company discipline and any FAA action/penalties.

Following the outcome of the review, the ERC may assign a corrective action to the Flight Attendant to keep the reported event in the ASAP program. Corrective actions may include counseling, procedural reviews and/or training.  Any of these actions will be kept confidential in the ASAP program, and nothing is ever in a flight attendant’s record or file.
