As a reminder, please make sure you understand the following important information regarding your FMLA and call-out procedures.

​Before Calling Out

  • Verify that your FMLA has been approved and that your current approved dates/episodes are reflected in the Aflac portal.
  • Check the Aflac calendar regularly to confirm your approved FMLA days.
  • Make sure you understand your individual FMLA approval, including the frequency and duration of your approved episodes.
  • If you are approved for 1 week only up to 3 days, please know if you call out for a 4-day trip due to an episode your FMLA will only cover 3 of the 4-day trip.  The 4th day will be coded as a sick day.

Calling Out Using FMLA

  • Follow the appropriate call-out procedure for your assignment or reserve day.
  • Report each day missed, including partial days within 3 days to Aflac
  • To avoid any mishaps, call crew services and notify Aflac concurrently.
  • Each day missed is deducted 8 hours of FMLA leave including the partial days
  • If you are calling Aflac regarding an FMLA episode, document the date, time, and name of the representative you spoke with.
  • If you are given information that conflicts with your approved FMLA or previous instructions, ask to speak with a representative who is knowledgeable about Flight Crew/FMLA procedures.

Important Reminder

Once your FMLA has been approved, please continue to monitor your Aflac account and verify that your approved days are correctly reflected.

If you experience an issue with your FMLA, call-out, or Aflac account, please document the issue and provide as much detail as possible so it can be addressed appropriately.  You may email the LOA department to look into any discrepancy you may have encountered @ [email protected]
