Report a Potential Junior Assignment Violation

Your AFA Grievance Committee is currently investigating what appears to be a major, system-wide issue with the Company’s handling of Junior Assignments. The Company provided us its official list of all Junior Assignments year-to-date — and shockingly, only four Flight Attendants appear on their report. Based on what we know from member experiences, this is not accurate.

A Junior Assignment is any involuntary flying on a scheduled day off, including:

  • Deadheads (LOA 14.G., CBA 2.M., 2.Z.)
  • Assignments that extend past 12:00am into your day off (LOA 14.G., CBA 2.M., 2.Z.)
  • Any involuntary flying you did not bid or volunteer for (LOA 14.G., CBA 2.M., 2.Z.)

Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, all Junior Assignments must be paid at 150%. If these events were not properly recorded as Junior Assignments, many Flight Attendants may have been incorrectly compensated. (CBA 5.H.6.)

We are conducting a full investigation to protect your contractual rights, and we need your help.

If you believe you may have been junior-assigned at any time this year — or were required to fly involuntarily into a scheduled day off — please submit the details below. Documentation from Flight Attendants is critical to building an accurate record and enforcing your pay rights.

Thank you for helping us hold the Company accountable and ensure full compliance with the contract.

Report A Violation

Please enter the date you worked into your day off as described above. (Any time after midnight onto your day off, involuntarily.)
Were you told you were being junior assigned or junior manned?
Did you receive 150% pay credit for your time worked past midnight?
Did you go below minimum days off as a result?
Please provide us with any additional details. This could include if you received or request a compensatory day off; any dates, times, or phone numbers Crew Services used to notify you of the assignment, or anything else that may be relevant in our investigation.
