Why I Am Interested in the Position

I am seeking the position of MEC Vice President because I want to continue serving our members by supporting the MEC President and carrying out the direction of the MEC. This role requires teamwork, organization, and steady follow-through. My goal is to ensure that the decisions made by the MEC are implemented efficiently, that communication remains open and reliable, and that our committees and LECs have the tools they need to succeed.

The MEC Vice President is not a figurehead—it’s a working role. It requires being available, responsive, and focused on the details that keep our union functioning smoothly. I am ready to bring my experience, energy, and commitment to that work.

What I Bring to the Role
I have spent more than twelve years developing a deep understanding of our contract, our membership, and the balance between advocacy and accountability. My years as a grievance representative, Reserve advocate, and local officer have given me a strong foundation in both representation and problem-solving.

I believe leadership means being dependable, approachable, and willing to listen. As MEC Vice President, I will focus on communication, collaboration, and consistent follow-through supporting the MEC President, working in partnership with the other officers, and ensuring the will of the MEC is carried out effectively and respectfully.

Experience and Qualifications

My aviation career began in 2006 as a Ramp Agent for SkyWest in Santa Barbara, and I became a Flight Attendant in 2008 with Mesaba Airlines. In 2012, I volunteered as an Info Rep and became actively involved as AFA returned to represent our group following the merger of Colgan, Pinnacle, and Mesaba.

Since then, I’ve proudly represented hundreds of Flight Attendants through grievances, terminations, and contract disputes—helping many return to work and achieving settlements that improved outcomes for our members. These experiences have shaped my leadership philosophy: fairness, persistence, and integrity in every decision.

Leadership Background

  • LEC President: 12 years (2013–2025)
  • MEC Reserve Chair: 2 years (current)
  • MEC Grievance Chair: 10 years
  • LEC Grievance Chair: Current
  • Local Grievance Representative: 13+ years
  • System Board Member: 4 years
  • LEC Secretary: Current (LEC 46)

Vision for the Future

As MEC Vice President, my vision is simple: to strengthen the connection between our MEC, LECs, and committees so that information and support flow easily in both directions. I want to ensure that our union continues to function efficiently, transparently, and with unity of purpose.

I will fully support the MEC President and follow the direction of the MEC. Together, we can continue to enforce our contract, improve communication, and create an even stronger foundation for the future.

I am deeply committed to the success of our Flight Attendants and to advancing our profession with fairness, respect, and solidarity.

In Solidarity,

Oscar Ochomogo
