Hotel Committee Updates

We survived the winter months, and now, as we head into the last stretch of summer, be prepared for IROPs as hurricane and storm season approaches.

Your biggest resource is the API MyCrewCare app. This is the only official source for your hotel and transportation information. It’s also where you can let us know about issues you encounter during your stays. Late van or car service? Noisy room? No rooms available? Submit a Crew Care report! You can also let us know about places you love by submitting a compliment through Crew Care.

It’s also a good idea to register using your personal email address. That way, if I need to contact you directly regarding a Crew Care report or hotel issue, you’ll be more likely to see it if you don’t check your work email regularly.

We have been discussing ways to ensure that the wait for a hotel is not excessively long once Crew Services has repaired your pairing. Please document any excessive hotel wait after your pairing has been repaired. API cannot assign a hotel until Crew Services has officially repaired your pairing, so the time spent waiting for your pairing to be rebuilt is not included in the hotel wait time. That is a separate issue.

I know many of us have been lamenting the loss of the YUL Marriott. Please continue to share your thoughts about the current hotel through Crew Care reports. Is your rest time or quality of rest being affected? Are you surprisingly satisfied with the hotel? Either way, we need to know how this is—or isn’t—working for you.

Sadly, we have also lost another beloved property: the Marco. Unfortunately, as it currently stands, the Marco’s new rate is not something the Company felt it could justify based on the number of stays we have in the market.

While we are not pleased that the bulk of our rooms are going to the Aloft, the Company has expressed to AFA and ALPA that it is still trying to work something out with the Marco. AFA and ALPA both have strong concerns about leaving the Marco and moving stays to the Aloft and other properties.

We want crews to have access to the numerous food options available in Flushing, as well as public transportation into the city when the length of the layover permits. We also need our primary hotel to provide reliable transportation, as the Marco did. We will continue pressing for a return to the Marco or for a more suitable replacement.

On a happier note, we have an excellent new property in IND, and we have been pleased to see that so many of you love it! Don’t skip the free breakfast—it’s definitely worth waking up for.

As a reminder, if you encounter an issue with your hotel room and the hotel is sold out, please contact Crew Services to find you a suitable replacement. This must be based on an issue with your current room, not a previous experience.

And, as always, remember to treat hotel and transportation staff with the same respect we want from our passengers.
