11.Unblocking schedule- DL, OO

DL read the following statement she supplied by email to be added.

“For the record I would like the statement I read at the MEC meeting entered in the records.”

“Members have expressed concern that their officers are taking a significant amount of union days and not actually flying. Many officers have chosen to be transparent so that members can see both the number of union days being taken as well as the officers are actually flying trips. Not all officers are currently committed to schedule transparency which causes concern among members.

I do not believe this provides true transparency.

Tracking the number of union days taken does not accurately reflect the amount of union work being performed. A more meaningful measure is the actual workload and responsibilities carried out, not simply the number of days coded in a schedule. Flight hours and visible trips do not capture the full scope of union duties.

All members have the contractual right to bid for reserve or lineholder schedules, as well as to swap, drop, or trade trips to improve their quality of life. These are company-provided tools—not union-created systems—and the MEC should not require officers to opt into or rely on them as a condition of holding office. Requiring participation in a company system effectively forces individuals to give up certain scheduling rights.

When similar expectations were placed on SAFAs by the company, the union opposed forcing members to choose between compliance and their roles. This situation raises a similar concern.

Additionally, the Constitution and Bylaws do not require blocking or unblocking schedules, nor do they mandate the use of company tools to establish or enforce union policies or procedures.

True transparency would come from a union-controlled system—such as the tool International is developing—that allows officers to log actual work performed, including union days, hours worked, and budget codes. This would provide a more accurate and accountable representation of union activity.

For example, looking at the schedule of the current MEC President over the past two months, she has flown only two trips. This does not reflect the substantial amount of union work performed during that time, nor does it account for the multiple roles and responsibilities she holds. The number of flights or visible schedule activity does not correlate with the amount of union work completed.

She is not alone—many officers hold multiple positions that require significant time and the use of union days that are not fully reflected in a company scheduling system.

Furthermore, the current “fix” relies on a company-controlled system that does not provide real transparency. Union days appear dashes or as hours in refrigerator mode. How is this transparency?

If transparency is the goal, the solution must be accurate, comprehensive, and controlled by the union—not dependent on a company system that was never designed for this purpose.”

End of statement

12. Crew Calm Initiative Details?  Everyone is up to date of EAP Crew Calm Initiative that will take place in June.

13. Cabin Temperatures Issue Continues - BH

BH made suggestion to get 5 FA’s in each base to document hot cabins with a humidity/temp

and fill out ASAP.  He will send link to each LECP for thermometer/humidity.

14. SAFA Schedules-I am wondering if anyone knows how scheduling of SAFAs is handled in each base? Is it consistent at each base. For example, Do they rotate days, are your required to work weekends, is it seniority based, if so, seniority with company or as a SAFA, Does a manager make the schedule, Besides JFK, is other bases running into issues of arguing of schedules and claims of unfairness, Is there a min rest between shifts?- OO

Discussion - need to discuss further as far as rest. Each base is doing their own thing. Need more information.
